Restart now<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nTroubleshoot <\/strong>> Advanced options<\/strong> > Startup Settings<\/strong> > Restart<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n- Your system will reboot, and you\u2019ll get a blue screen that lets you Choose an option<\/strong>. These options may vary. On my system, I could choose to continue to Windows 11, boot from an external device such as a USB drive, turn off the PC, or troubleshoot. If you want to reset your PC, click on Troubleshoot<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
- The next screen will let you reset the PC, restore it from a factory image, or offer additional Advanced options<\/strong>. <\/li>\n
- Before you decide to reset, it may be to your advantage to check out the advanced options. They include a Startup Repair<\/strong> feature, Startup Settings<\/strong>, which lets you restart to change a variety of Windows options (and lets you enable Safe Mode); an option to uninstall updates (which are often the cause of problems); System Restore; and others. <\/li>\n
- If you want to reset your PC, then click on that option; you\u2019ll then be given the choice to either keep your files or remove everything. Click on either and the process will begin; again, you may need to fill in your recovery key first.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
From your sign-in screen<\/h3>\n
If your PC is crapping out after you pass the sign-in screen, you can try to access reset from that same sign-in screen. These are the instructions on the Microsoft site, though it didn\u2019t work for me. The system would reboot, but I always ended up at the same sign-in screen. However, you could give it a shot:<\/p>\n
\n- Hold down the Shift key<\/strong> and click on the power icon in the lower-right corner. <\/li>\n
- While holding down the Shift key, click on Restart<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
From a blank screen<\/h3>\n
This is the most difficult way to access the Choose an option screen. <\/strong>But it\u2019s what you want to try if your PC is simply not booting Windows. It may take several tries, so prepare to be patient.<\/p>\n\n- Make sure your computer is completely turned off.<\/li>\n
- Press the power button to turn your PC on. As soon as it restarts (for example, if you see the manufacturer\u2019s logo), press the power button for about 10 seconds until the system turns off again.<\/li>\n
- Repeat the process of on \/ off a second time.<\/li>\n
- The third time you power up, you should be able to access Advanced options > Choose an option > Troubleshoot > Reset this PC<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Again, after multiple tries (admittedly on a working PC) I was not able to access this screen using this method. But, if your PC is simply not booting up and you want to try to reset it, it\u2019s worth a try.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
