In an all-hands meeting with employees on Tuesday, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy addressed the mounting efforts to unionize the company\u2019s fulfillment centers. The discussion was sparked by an employee who asked about the company\u2019s position on unions, per a recording of the meeting obtained by The Verge.<\/em><\/p>\n

Jassy argued that unionization would make employees of the company feel less empowered. \u201cOne of the things that\u2019s unique about Amazon is that we have unusual empowerment for our employees,\u201d he said. \u201cIf they see something they can do better for customers \u2014 or just for themselves \u2014 to get together, get in a room, decide to change it, and change it, and do it quickly. We encourage that type of speed. You know, you\u2019re part of the union it\u2019s much slower and much more bureaucratic, much harder to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jassy prefaced the statement by making clear that \u201cthe decision to join a union is employees\u2019 decision. It always has been, and always will be.\u201d <\/p>\n
