The Nintendo Switch is getting some big-name roleplaying games. At a Nintendo Direct Mini today, Nintendo revealed that Persona 5 Royal<\/em> (along with its predecessors Persona 3 Portable<\/em> and Persona 4 Golden<\/em>) will be coming to the Switch. Persona 5<\/em> is launching on October 21st and will be preceded by Nier: Automata<\/em> on October 6th. Both are seminal RPGs that originally launched in 2017; you can check out our original reviews of P5<\/em><\/a> and Automata<\/em><\/a>. (Nintendo says to expect more details on Persona 3<\/em> and 4<\/em> \u201csoon.\u201d)<\/p>\n
The announcements were the highlights of today\u2019s event, but there were a handful of other notable reveals and updates as well. Here\u2019s what you may have missed:<\/p>\n
\n<\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"oGp3q4\">Games and demos out today<\/h3>\n<p id=\"x9pCu8\">As per usual, Nintendo didn\u2019t just announce new games; it also launched a few. The <em>Portal: Companion Collection<\/em> \u2014 which bundles together both games in the series \u2014 will be available later today as will the RPG <em>Little Noah: Scion of Paradise<\/em>. The Switch eShop will also be getting a demo for the remake of cult classic <em>Live A Live<\/em>; save data from the demo will also carry over to the full game, which launches on July 22nd.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"RMqbWe\">\n<em>Return to Monkey Island<\/em> is coming to the Switch<\/h3>\n<p id=\"mQYG6K\">There\u2019s still a lot we don\u2019t know about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/4\/4\/23009951\/ron-gilbert-return-to-monkey-island\">Ron Gilbert\u2019s return to the <em>Monkey Island<\/em> series<\/a>. But at least one platform has been announced, as <em>Return to Monkey Island<\/em> will be coming to the Switch when the game launches later this year. Nintendo says it will be available \u201cfirst for consoles\u201d on the Switch. For more on the sequel, check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/4\/14\/23021974\/return-to-monkey-island-ron-gilbert-dave-grossman-interview-screenshots\">our interview with Gilbert and Dave Grossman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"ZB6zGA\">The new <em>Mario + Rabbids<\/em> has a release date<\/h3>\n<p id=\"K0i0BM\">It\u2019s been a while since we heard much on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/6\/12\/22530737\/mario-rabbids-sparks-of-hope-nintendo-leak-release-date\"><em>Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope<\/em><\/a>, the sequel to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/8\/28\/16214482\/mario-rabbids-kingdom-battle-nintendo-switch-review\">a surprisingly great strategy game from 2017<\/a>. Today, Ubisoft showed off a new trailer for the game and also revealed that it will be launching on the Switch on October 20th.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"GpvMSa\">A new <em>Dragon Quest<\/em> spinoff is on the way<\/h3>\n<p id=\"Rkf2ZG\">The long-running <em>Dragon Quest<\/em> series has plenty of spinoffs, and yet another was revealed today. It\u2019s called <em>Dragon Quest Treasures<\/em>, and it appears to switch up the roleplaying formula by letting players team up with monsters. It\u2019s launching on December 9th.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"ZeD33a\">A new life sim from Square Enix<\/h3>\n<p id=\"OAK0Jb\">This new title from Square Enix looks like it mashes up the developer\u2019s iconic fantasy RPG style with a life sim that\u2019s similar to <em>Animal Crossing<\/em>. It also has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/3\/4\/22960053\/triangle-strategy-nintendo-switch-interview\">the most Square Enix name possible<\/a> in <em>Harvestella<\/em>. It\u2019s slated to hit the Switch on November 4th.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Qb6Pd8\">Disney\u2019s <em>Dreamlight Valley<\/em> has a Switch release date<\/h3>\n<p id=\"DUKpV1\">Another <em>Animal Crossing<\/em>-style game, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/4\/28\/23046633\/disney-dreamlight-valley-animal-crossing-ps5-xbox-pc\"><em>Dreamlight Valley<\/em><\/a>, is coming to a large number of platforms, and Nintendo has confirmed that an early access version for the Switch will be launching on September 6th.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"FgBAFa\">Another Capcom retro collection<\/h3>\n<p id=\"9KBTD9\">Capcom loves to re-release its back catalog titles; most recently, the company launched the multiplatform collection with the creatively named <em>Capcom Fighting Collection<\/em>. Up next is <em>Mega Man<\/em>.
