There are many reasons why you might want to factory reset your smartwatch. Perhaps an update got borked during download and no amount of troubleshooting has helped. Maybe you want to upgrade to a new model and plan to gift your current watch to a friend. Apple requires you to do it if you happen to forget your passcode<\/a>. Or, it\u2019s possible that smartwatches just aren\u2019t your thing and you\u2019re ready to sell. <\/p>\n
Whatever the reason, it\u2019s important that you wipe the data from your device. Wearables are personal devices and store a ton of sensitive data \u2014 especially if you primarily use your smartwatch for health and fitness tracking. As a general reminder, if you\u2019re not totally throwing in the towel on smartwatches, it\u2019s a good idea to back up your data before you reset. <\/p>\n
Each smartwatch has a slightly different method for a factory reset. Here\u2019s how to do it for some of the more popular smartwatches.<\/p>\n

To do that:<\/p>\n\nOpen the Watch<\/strong> app on your iPhone.<\/li>\n
Tap Cellular<\/strong> and then select the information icon<\/strong> next to your plan.<\/li>\nTap Remove<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThis should be enough, but we all know how carriers can be. Apple\u2019s support page<\/a> notes that in some cases, you may have to contact your carrier to disconnect your watch. If you plan on gifting or selling by a certain date, make sure to plan accordingly so you\u2019re not left scrambling. <\/p>\n
To reset your Apple Watch:<\/p>\n
\nOpen the Settings<\/strong> app on your Apple Watch.<\/li>\n
Go to General<\/strong> and then scroll down to Reset<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
Select Erase All Content and Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\nConfirm by entering your passcode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nSamsung Galaxy Watch 4<\/h2>\nThere are multiple ways to reset the Galaxy Watch 4, both from the watch and from your phone. As with the Apple Watch, if you have a cellular version, you should remove it from your plan first.<\/p>\n\n\n  <\/p>\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

To remove the Galaxy Watch 4 from your cellular plan:<\/p>\n\nOpen the Galaxy Wearable app.<\/li>\n
Tap Watch settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
Scroll down to and tap Mobile plans<\/strong>.<\/li>\nRemove your watch from your plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nAgain if you encounter any problems, you may have to contact your individual carrier, so make sure you don\u2019t leave this to the last minute. Once you\u2019ve removed your watch \u2014 or if you only have a Bluetooth version \u2014 you can start the factory reset process. <\/p>\n
To reset from the watch:<\/p>\n\nGo to Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
Tap General<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
Swipe to Reset.<\/li>\n
If you haven\u2019t already, you can tap Back up data<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

Fitbit Sense and Fitbit Versa series<\/h2>\nNeither the Sense nor Versa series has cellular connectivity \u2014 so no need to worry about carriers here. Another boon is that the process is the same for all of Fitbit\u2019s smartwatches.<\/p>\n
To reset the Fitbit Sense and Versa series watches:<\/p>\n

Wear OS 2 smartwatches<\/h2>\nMost Wear OS 2 smartwatches do not have cellular capabilities. One exception is the Fossil Gen 5 LTE<\/a>, which is only available to Verizon customers. To turn off connectivity for that watch, you\u2019ll have to check with the carrier. <\/p>\n
Otherwise, here\u2019s how to factory reset Wear OS 2 watches.<\/p>\n
\nSwipe down and select the Settings<\/strong> cog.<\/li>\n
